Hi Everyone Here is my report on my MG Live track experience. Firstly I'd like to say how much I enjoyed meeting everybody and I really appreciated the support. I look forward to seeing you at more races throughout the season. So we arrived at Silverstone Friday morning in order to take part in a 20 minute test session, this was quite important as I had never driven the International Circuit before and it was also my first time in Peter's car. It took a while to adjust the seatbelts and pad the seat out, then it was time to go. Unfortunately after 4 laps the red flags came out and the session was cut short, however I managed a 1.45 which was the quickest lap the car had done at the track so that shows the developments the team are making to the car.
Despite only having a few laps it was enough to realise where the car could be even faster, as it was not possible to really attack the circuit as the car felt very spongy, the best way to explain it is, it was a feeling I have experienced before when I have been on a wet set up and the circuit has dried. As luck would have it, it turned out that there was space in a late afternoon test so Eddie and I opted to make major changes to the set up and I would go out and see what would happen. It's a bit hard to explain the contradiction but basically we made the car feel miles better but slowed it down. Now that I knew the circuit I could push the car and managed a 1.44.1 which was really pleasing, the car was a lot more stable and this really helped through the quick corners however in the slower corners we had induced major understeer that was costing us a lot of time.
I had a feeling things were about to get painful as I found myself face to face with an MGB but fortunately everyone else avoided me and i completed my spin to face the right way and set off in pursuit. Incredibly the car had only sustained minor cosmetic damage, (will need a wing), and felt exactly the same as earlier so I had fun chasing down and passing a few cars before the pit stops and also broke our previous best by clocking a 1.43.3. |
