Hi Everyone

Here is my report on my MG Live track experience.
Firstly I'd like to say how much I enjoyed meeting everybody and I really appreciated the support.
I look forward to seeing you at more races throughout the season.

So we arrived at Silverstone Friday morning in order to take part in a 20 minute test session,
this was quite important as I had never driven the International Circuit before and it was also my first time in Peter's car. It took a while to adjust the seatbelts and pad the seat out, then it was time to go. Unfortunately after 4 laps the red flags came out and the session was cut short, however I managed a 1.45 which was the quickest lap the car had done at the track so that shows the developments the team are making to the car.

Despite only having a few laps it was enough to realise where the car could be even faster, as it was not possible to really attack the circuit as the car felt very spongy, the best way to explain it is, it was a feeling I have experienced before when I have been on a wet set up and the circuit has dried. As luck would have it, it turned out that there was space in a late afternoon test so Eddie and I opted to make major changes to the set up and I would go out and see what would happen. It's a bit hard to explain the contradiction but basically we made the car feel miles better but slowed it down. Now that I knew the circuit I could push the car and managed a 1.44.1 which was really pleasing, the car was a lot more stable and this really helped through the quick corners however in the slower corners we had induced major understeer that was costing us a lot of time.

On my return to the pits I spent time with Eddie discussing the car and he came up with solutions to our problem, although unfortunately I wasn't going to drive again until Sunday lunchtime, however neither Peter or Tim complained of understeer on Saturday so I knew it had worked. Eddie and I have very quickly developed an understanding that is excellent for setting the car up and is really going to allow us to get the best from any car very quickly, this is yet another thing that makes being a Lunar Racing driver so exciting, I have never felt so confident in a race engineer and we've only actually done two days together so far.

On Saturday night I went on a track walk with Peter showing the lines I take and explaining why, showing how I try to make a lap flow, hopefully Peter found this useful, but actually I also find doing this very useful as well, there's something about explaining it outloud that really helps me despite the fact I am already trying to do it anyway.

Sunday lunchtime it was time to qualify for our two driver enduro, as Peter had just qualified for his race he went first in order to just complete his compulsory 3 laps then it was down to me to set our qualifying time. I absolutely loved the session, where on Friday night I had been getting major understeer both on corner entry and mid corner Eddie's set up change had got rid of it completely I managed a 1.43.7 qualifying in 8th out of 30 cars. We had been saying we wanted it to rain so we could beat the V8s however no need as we qualified ahead of them anyway. The only thing now was that I was able to go that much faster we now had corner exit understeer due to working the tyres harder and the PSi increasing too much, (9PSi increase) but this was easily fixed.

So onto the race, due to our higher than expected grid slot I started the race with the idea of trying to stay with the MG ZR 190s and seeing what lap time we could manage, however if I say so myself I made an awesome start and actually passed both of the ZRs that were on the row in front, as I approached Copse I was concentrating on braking as late as absolutely possible in order to prevent them coming back at me round the outside. Unfortunately though before I even got to where I planned to brake I was hit in my rear wheel by the blue zr which turned me left into the path of the white ZR that hit my front wheel.

I had a feeling things were about to get painful as I found myself face to face with an MGB but fortunately everyone else avoided me and i completed my spin to face the right way and set off in pursuit. Incredibly the car had only sustained minor cosmetic damage, (will need a wing), and felt exactly the same as earlier so I had fun chasing down and passing a few cars before the pit stops and also broke our previous best by clocking a 1.43.3.

So a huge thank you to Pete for letting me race with him, and a big apology for bruising the pride and joy, I have already supplied the replacement wing so she'll be all pretty again for Mallory, where hopefully ZS Central will continue their incredible support.
