May - Car Of The Month

Over the past few months since ZS Central starting running this little feature, we’ve seen many different things attracting people to the MG marque and the ZS.

This month’s star is no different.

Steve considers himself somewhat of an MG Rover nut, having owned four Rover Coupes he decided to call time on the Tomcats and go for something he really wanted-The ZS. The ZS is almost the forgotten member of the Z family, but as anyone who has driven one will tell you, it’s the best kept secret of the range and deserved better sales figures.

A fantastically balanced package, the ZS offers the flexibility of a five-door or four door family motor, without compromising the driving experience. Indeed the ZS actively rewards the keener driver thanks to its fine suspension set-up combined with the flexible power offered by the light-weight K-series engine.

Steve knew what he wanted, a British Racing Green hatchback, with the 1.8 120 bhp power-plant.

Running costs were a consideration, so that meant the thirstier 2.5 V6 was out of the equation. Steve eventually found his car after scour ring the internet, “Getting it was a trek, I found it advertised on the net but it was in Hull and I am in Brighton, so that was 6 hours on a train up there to get it and a 5 hour drive back, and I loved every moment of the drive back. Totally fell in love with the car, I love the noise it makes, I love the way it handles, I love the looks and I love the way it turns heads when it is fully cleaned and polished.”

Steve freely admits that like most of here on ZS Central, he’s a little bit possessive over his pride and joy.

“I hate anyone else driving it or even getting close to it as I try my hardest to keep it as pristine as possible. I have made a few minor mods to it since I have had it. I managed to track down the matching green insert steering wheel to match my green Monaco interior. Since the pics I have since changed the wheels to 16" Gridspokes which apparently as rare as hen's teeth, as I got a major bargain on eBay. I have also fitted some of the chrome kick plates modified with Xpower stickers on them, supplied by Wilko. Just this weekend I managed to changed the front wing bump strips for silver ones with the ZS decals on. Also my favourite mod that you might see on the pics is the front MG badge which I got in green to match the car.”

Steve’s pride shines through in the quality and condition of his ZS, a fine example of the model and deservedly winner of Car of the Month.
